Surplus Selections

The ECO Food Sharing Hub and community fridge is open! Please come along to browse and pick your surplus food - we are thrilled to be able to welcome you into the Hub once again.

You can still, however, order Surplus Selections here and continue to reduce food waste from home (our team will put together a selection of the food available in the hub in a size which is appropriate to the number of people in your household) or Pay It Forward so someone else can help us to reduce food waste!

Please read our FAQs below before making an order:

+ What is in the Surplus Food Selection Box?

This pot-luck approach is a great way to try new foods, reduce your environmental impact, and learn new food saving tips! Get creative in the kitchen, use search engines to find new recipes, ask your family for ideas, and try new dishes! Available Wednesday to Friday - Pay as you feel, collection or delivery (*plus delivery charge.)

If you have food allergies please avoid using this food, due to the potential risk of cross-contamination. Surplus food is a bit ‘random’, whilst we will tailor the delivery to your household needs, we aren’t in a position to say in advance what food you will receive. If there is something in your selection which you definitely won’t eat, please pass it along to a neighbour or friend.

+ Delivery Information

We are charging £3.50 for delivery, this supports the project in paying volunteer petrol expenses to deliver to you, charities and community groups, and to collect the food from all the supermarkets everyday.

As an environmental project, we are committed to keeping our carbon emissions low, and making our delivery routes as efficient as possible. As such, we are trying to maintain a 5 mile radius along select routes (see order form) so as to add minimal carbon miles to food that already has very high carbon miles.

This will also help us as an organisation, as we operate on a shoestring budget.

+ What is Pay As You Feel?

We have made this service an affordable and accessible environmental choice. After you have received your box, please ‘Pay As You Feel’ for its contents, for advice about what we think pay as you feel means, see here.

+ Food Quality

Please be aware that food surplus is usually past its best before date. The best before date is a quality marker, as is ‘display until’ and ‘sell by’ - this means that the food will be of the highest quality until the date suggested, but we can use our human senses to distinguish its safety. However, the ‘use by’ date is very important as this date is a safety marker, we will not redistribute food past its use by date.

+ How do I place an order?

  1. Order before 6pm the night before your desired delivery
  2. Complete the form below and click submit to send your order
  3. Please pay for your delivery
  4. Please pop back on to our site and Pay As You Feel for your box, and leave a comment in our visitors book, after you have collected or received your order.

+ What is Pay It Forward?

If you want to support our project, but don’t need any food yourself at this time, or want to support someone who might not be able to afford to use this or other delivery services, please Pay It Forward. Aber Food Surplus works with a host of community groups and charities in Aberystwyth to support their projects and clients with food, and the pay it forward donations support this ongoing work too.

People who can not afford a Surplus Selection Box and are not in our charity network can then claim a box that has been paid for through 'Pay It Forward'.
