What is Pay As You Feel?

Pay As You Feel is a system of payment in which the buyer, citizen or consumer decides upon the price paid for services or goods.

This can be a difficult decision to make, so below are some tips to help you along…

Comparison

What would you pay, or have you paid for a similar experience elsewhere?
Think about how this compares and whether you would pay the same here.

Valuing the ethos of a company or organisation

When we make a decision to purchase from a particular company, we are supporting what that companies values or supports.

Your Experience

Did you enjoy your experience? Did you feel it added value, such as environmental or community benefit?

Affordability

What can you afford to pay? People have different levels of income. Therefore, in relative terms, a fixed price for a product means it costs more to some than to others. We believe paying a price that is relative to what you earn is a fair system.

The process behind the product

Every product has a journey and inputs that are often visible or considered.

In the case of a surplus meal, for example, this can mean:
-Production inputs (e.g. soil, labour, time, fertiliser)
-Transportation (farm-store-premises-kitchen)
-Chef time (in our case, volunteer)
-Service time and labour
-Venue costs
-Company overheads - e.g. insurance

Any coin will do?

This isn't "no-cost food" - we pay rent on the property (the ECO Food Sharing Hub), it's running costs, transportation costs; we aren't financially supported by either the government or the supermarkets.

As such, we welcome donations to help support our ongoing work to meet our aims and objectives. We value your contributions and support.

We believe in giving people the choice to decide to contribute financially and how much.
